Introduction

Blood transfusion now plays an important role in comprehensive patient care in modern medicine. The support of patients with haematological disorders and tranplant surgery will not be possible without the use of blood transfusion. With better undertstanding of the benefits and hazards of blood transfuion therapy and availability of specific blood components, the clinicians and blood transfusion centre are now in a position to provide specific blood or blood components indicated therapeutically.
